Capstone Encourages Healthy Eating with New MyPlate Children's Books

MANKATO, MN, August 20, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Capstone Press, an imprint of Capstone, a leading publisher of children's books and digital products and services, announces new publications based on the USDA's recently unveiled food icon MyPlate, the replacement of the MyPyramid image and symbol of the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The MyPlate icon emphasizes portion control and the fruit, vegetable, grains, protein, and diary food groups.

Written for beginning readers, MyPlate and You, by Gillia Olson, teaches kids the basics of MyPlate to help them make good food and activity choices with basic vocabulary and colorful photographs. In graphic novel format, the MyPlate and Healthy Eating series includes six titles, each one promoting healthy eating by focusing on the updated USDA guidelines for a specific food group. The MyPlate and Healthy Eating titles feature simple panels, colorful art, and a guide on how to read graphic novels. The new publications align with national and state standards and include a table of contents, glossary, and index.

About the Authors
Marcie Aboff is the author of more than 50 fiction and nonfiction picture books, easy readers, chapter books, and activity books. She resides with her family in Edison, NJ and enjoys cooking and eating healthy foods.

Sally Lee is a former special education teacher who wants to make learning fun. Her love of research has resulted in numerous nonfiction books for children of all ages.
