CMC was founded as a private firm in 1948 with a franchise to sell Land Rover and Volkswagen cars. After becoming a publicly traded company in 1956 the business has continued to grow, offering a wide range of vehicles, parts and after care throughout Kenya and the wider east Africa region.

Having joined the company in 1978 as a Sales Director, Martin Forster worked his way up to the position of Managing Director before his promotion to Chief Executive Officer eight years ago. So there was no better man for African Business Review to talk to about CMC's current business standing.

CMC operates predominantly out of Kenya, selling anything from small Suzuki cars to MAN lorries and New Holland tractors; its latest franchise acquisition was Jaguar, highlighting the wide spectrum of vehicles provided by the company.

Martin Forster explains that as the market stands, "we are the biggest motor traders in the region; we have eight branches all over the country, whereby our nearest competitor only has three branches, so we can give back up service all over Kenya. We are also well situated all through east Africa including Uganda and Tanzania with a view to expanding into South Sudan in the near future".
